שמע ישראל יהוה אלהינו יהוה אחד
Hear intelligently with attention and interest, comprehend and obey, O Yisra'el, יהוה our 'Elohiym is יהוה alone!
–Dabariym [deuteronomy] 6:4 His Name Tanakh**
בראשית Bere'shiyth beh-ray-sheeth Genesis: In the Beginning.
Bere'shiyth– in the beginning of 'Elohiym's creation of the heavens and the earth:
2. And the earth had become desolation and an indistinguishable nothingness, and destruction and wickedness were upon the face of the abyss. The Breath of 'Elohiym was brooding over the face of the waters.
3. And 'Elohiym said: Become light; and light became.
4. 'Elohiym saw that the light was righteous; and 'Elohiym separated the light from the destruction and wickedness.
Bere'shiyth 12:
NOW יהוה said to 'Abram: Go for yourself away from your country, from your relatives and your father's house, to the land that I will show you.
2. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3. And I will bless those who bless you and curse him who curses you; in you will all the families of the earth be blessed.
4. So 'Abram departed, as יהוה had directed him; and Lowt went with him. 'Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Charan.
Bere'shiyth 17:
10. This is My covenant, which you will keep, between Me and you and your posterity after you: Every male among you will be circumcised.
11. You will circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it will be a token or a sign of the covenant between Me and you.
12. He who is eight days old among you will be circumcised, every male throughout your generations, whether born in your house or bought with silver from any foreigner not of your offspring.
13. He that is born in your house and he that is bought with your silver must be circumcised; and My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.
14. And the male that is not circumcised that soul will be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.
שמות Shemoth [exodus] sheh-moht Exodus: The Names.
Shemoth [exodus] 4:
21. And יהוה said to Mosheh: When you go back into Mitsrayim, see that you do before Par'oh all the wonders which I have put in your hand: but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.
22. You will say to Par'oh: Thus says יהוה: Yisra'el is My son, My first-born;
23. And I have said to you: Let My son go that he may serve Me; and you have refused to let him go: behold, I will kill your son, your first-born.
Shemoth [exodus] 12:
4. If the household be too little for a lamb, then he and the neighbor next to his house will take one according to the number of the souls; according to every man's eating you will make your count for the lamb.
5. Your lamb will be without blemish, a male a year old: you will take it from the sheep, or from the goats:
6. You will keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the assembly of Yisra'el will kill it in the evening.
Shemoth [exodus] 20:
AND 'Elohiym spoke all these words, saying:
2. I am יהוה your 'Elohiy, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage.
3. You will have no gods neither above or beyond nor next to or that are equal to Me.
4. You will not make any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in Heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
5. You will not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, יהוה your 'Elohiy, am a jealous Strength, visiting and depositing the perversity and the evil of the fathers onto the sons, even to the great grandchild and the great, great grandchild of those which hate Me!
6. And showing loving kindness to thousands of them that love Me and keep My commandments.
ויקרא Va'iyqrah [leviticus] vaw-ee'-kraw Leviticus: And He Called.
Va'iyqrah [leviticus] 19:
AND יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:
2. Speak to all the assembly of the sons of Yisra'el, and say to them: You will be Qodesh; for I יהוה your 'Elohiy am Qadowsh.
3. You will fear every man his mother, and his father; and you will guard My Shabbaths: I am יהוה, your 'Elohiy!
4. Do not turn to idols, nor cast for yourselves mighty ones: I, יהוה, am your 'Elohiy!
Va'iyqrah [leviticus] 20:
23. You will not walk in the customs of the nations, which I cast out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.
24. But I have said to you: You will inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it. A land flowing with milk and honey: I am יהוה your 'Elohiy, who has separated you from all other peoples.
25. You will therefore make a distinction between the clean beast and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean: and you will not make your souls abominable by beast, or by bird, or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have separated from you as unclean.
26. You will be Qadowsh to Me: for I, יהוה, am Qadowsh, and have set you apart from all other peoples that you should be Mine.
Va'iyqrah [leviticus] 26:
13. I, יהוה your 'Elohiy, brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, where you were slaves; and I will tear down and destroy your yoke, and make you walk upright.
14. If you will not listen, and will not do all these commandments;
15. If you reject My statutes, and if your soul detests My ordinances that you fail to do all of My commandments, but violate My covenant;
במדבר Bemidbar beh-mid-bawr Numbers: In the wilderness.
Bemidbar 3:
NOW these are the generations of 'Aharown and Mosheh in the day that יהוה spoke with Mosheh in Har Çiynay.
2. And these are the names of the sons of 'Aharown: Nadab the first-born, and 'Abiyhuw', 'El'azar, and 'Iythamar.
3. These are the names of the sons of 'Aharown, the Kohaniym that were anointed, whom he consecrated as Kahan.
4. And Nadab and 'Abiyhuw' died before the Face of יהוה, when they offered strange fire before the Face of יהוה, in the wilderness of Çiynay, and they had no children; and 'El'azar and 'Iythamar officiated as Kahan in the presence of 'Aharown their father.
Bemidbar 12:
5. And יהוה came down in a column of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called 'Aharown and Miryam; and they came out.
6. And He said: Hear now My words: if a prophet is of יהוה, he will see a vision, I will speak to him in a dream.
7. My servant Mosheh is not so; in My House he is wholly faithful:
8. With him I will speak mouth to mouth, by My appearance, and not in conundrums; and the image of יהוה he will behold: why were you not afraid to speak against My servant Mosheh?
9. And the anger of יהוה blazed against them; and He departed.
דברים Dabariym [deuteronomy] daw-bawr-eem’ Deuteronomy: The Words.
Dabariym [deuteronomy] 5:
AND Mosheh called to all Yisra'el, saying to them: Hear intelligently with attention and interest, comprehend and obey, O Yisra'el, the statutes and the ordinances which I speak in your ears this day that you may learn them, and observe to do them.
2. יהוה 'Elohiym made a covenant with us in Choreb.
3. יהוה made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
4. יהוה spoke with you face to face in the mountain out of the midst of the fire,
5. (I stood between יהוה and you at that time, to show you the word of יהוה: for you were afraid because of the fire, and did not go up into the mountain) saying:
6. I am יהוה your 'Elohiy, who brought you out of the land of Mitsrayim, out of the house of bondage.
7. You will have no gods neither above or beyond nor next to or that are equal to My face.
Dabariym [deuteronomy] 9:
Hear intelligently with attention and interest, comprehend and obey, O Yisra'el: you are to pass over the Yarden this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to heaven,
2. A people great and tall, the sons of the 'Anaqiy, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say: who can stand before the sons of 'Anaq?
3. Know therefore this day that יהוה your 'Elohiym is He who goes over before you as a devouring fire; He will destroy them, and He will bring them down before you: so you will drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as יהוה has spoken to you.
4. You will not speak in your heart, after that יהוה your 'Elohiy has thrust them out from before you, saying: for my righteousness יהוה has brought me in to possess this land; whereas for the wickedness of these nations יהוה does drive them out from before you.
5. Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations יהוה your 'Elohiy does drive them out from before you, and that He may establish the word which יהוה swore to your fathers, to 'Abraham, to Yitschaq, and to Ya'aqob.
ישעיהו Yesha'yahuw [isaiah] yesh-ah-yaw'-hoo Isaiah: יהוה has saved.
Yesha'yahuw [isaiah] 14
FOR יהוה will have compassion on Ya'aqob, and will yet choose Yisra'el, and set them in their own land: and the sojourner will join himself with them, and they will cleave to the house of Ya'aqob.
2. And the people will take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Yisra'el will possess them in the land of יהוה for servants and for handmaids: and they will take them captive whose captives they were; and they will rule over their oppressors.
3. And it will come to pass in the day that יהוה will give you rest from your sorrow, and from your trouble, and from the hard service wherein you were made to serve,
חבקוק Chabaqquwq khab-ak-kook' Habakkuk: Embrace.
THE burden which Chabaqquwq the prophet saw:
2. O יהוה, how long will I cry, and You will not hear? I cry out to You of violence, and You will not save.
3. Why do You show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? For destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention rises up.
4. Therefore the Towrah is slacked, and justice does never go out; for the wicked does compass about the righteous; therefore justice goes out perverted.
משלי השלמה ידידיה Mishliy [proverbs] ha Shelomoh Yediydeyah
mish’-lee ha shel-o-moh’ yed-ee-deh-yah’
The Proverbs of Solomon Beloved of יהוה
Mishliy [proverbs] 5:
MY son, attend unto my wisdom; incline your ear to my comprehension:
2. That you may preserve discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.
3. For the lips of a strange woman drop honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
4. But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on She'owl;
רות Ruwth root Ruth: Friend.
16. And Ruwth said: Entreat me not to leave you, and to return from following after you, for where you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people will be my people, and your 'Elohiy will be my 'Elohiy;
17. Where you die, will I die, and there I will be buried: יהוה do so to me and more also, if anything but death part you and me.
18. And when she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking to her.
19. So they two went until they came to Beyth Lechem. And it was, when they were come to Beyth Lechem that the city was moved about them, and the women said: Is this No'omiy?
20. And she said to them: Call me not No'omiy; call me Mara; for Shadday has dealt very bitterly with me.
21. I went out full, and יהוה has brought me home again empty; why call you me No'omiy, seeing יהוה has testified against me, and Shadday has afflicted me?
